Season two of Narcos finally hit Netflix over the weekend, revealing the fate of Pablo Escobar while also hinting at further stories about Colombia’s drug trade.
Unsurprisingly, the streaming service has confirmed seasons three and four are definitely happening, with José Padilha (Elite Squad, RoboCop) and Eric Newman (Children of Men) staying on as producers. Narcos season three will hit Netflix next year (2017).
Before the release of season two, the duo spoke candidly about wanting to continue working on the series. “We’ll stop when the drug trade stops,” Padilha told one publication, Newman adding: “We’ll stop when you stop. That’s our pact with America.”

Speaking about season two, the producers said how focusing on 18 months of Escobar’s life, rather than 15 years, changed the show fundamentally.

“It allowed us to slow down and live with the characters a little bit more than we could have last season,” Newman told the trade. “Now we’re watching his empire collapse around him.”

Will there be a Suburra Season 2?
There’s no way to know yet. While Netflix has jumped the gun with a few recent renewals (Mindhunterwas quickly guaranteed a second season), Suburra‘s success seems to be a bit of a slow burn, so there’s been no real news yet. Generally, the platform is pretty conservative when it comes to renewals; Gypsyand Girlbosswere axed after just one season each and Sense8and The Get Downafter their respective two. With the critical love Suburra‘s been receiving, however, it seems positioned to be Netflix’s next Narcos – so it could be likely that we’ll see another installment.
When will Suburra Season 2 hit Netflix if it does get renewed?
If the show sticks to patterns followed in the past, it’s likely that it’ll return sometime around fall 2018. We generally see around a year between each season of Netflix original series.

Why hasn’t Netflix renewed Suburrayet?
The platform is actually usually more likely to take their time before renewing a series; even House of Cards rarely has an immediate guarantee of future seasons. Because Suburra is still so fresh, it’s likely that Netflix is waiting to see how well it performs and how sustainable it is financially. They also might be in talks with our Italian friends about logistics, as Netflix original series are frequently co-produced with other companies.
